Enfield Lib Dems announce By-Election candidates

Enfield Liberal Democrats have unveiled their candidates for the by-elections in Chase, Southbury and Jubilee on May 6th.

Luke Cummings for Southbury Ward

Guy Russo for Enfield Chase Ward

Iman Saadoune for Jubilee Ward

Local party Chair and Chase Ward candidate Guy Russo said "I am really proud to be part of an energetic and ambitious team of Liberal Democrats for this set of local by-elections in Enfield"

"Voters in these three wards now have a clear, liberal and progressive alternative to this Labour Council that just doesn't listen on their ballot papers on May 6th"

The candidate in Southbury, Luke Cummings, a local mentor for the National Citizen Service, has emphasised the importance of building more affordable housing in the Borough.

"We currently have many thousands of people on our Council housing waiting lists, people who need proper safe secure family homes and our Council seems to only want to build flats for buy to let investors or people who could afford a flat anyway. They are over 1 Billion pounds in debt and still doing the wrong thing" said Luke.

In Jubilee, secondary school teacher Dr Iman Saadoune is standing up for local people against the new Edmonton incinerator, emphasising that this is yet another key decision about the future of Enfield that the Labour Council has failed to properly consult on.

"This will produce pollution and greenhouse gases for at least 25 years. Much of this waste is items that could be recycled. Even if Enfield improves its recycling it will have to import waste to burn. This seems crazy and a complete disincentive to do anything else than just burn recycling and very few people locally seem to know this is happening."

In Chase, Guy Russo has put protecting Whitewebbs front and centre of his campaign.

"The situation at Whitewebbs represents everything people are frustrated with this Council about. Key information about the future of this green space is now a year overdue, and the Council seems to think it has already consulted when absolutely no formal consultation has taken place. Local people deserve to have their say over the future of Whitewebbs, and I will make sure our voices are heard at the Council" said Guy.

The by-elections will take place on Thursday May 6th, coinciding with the London Mayoral and GLA elections.

"Across Chase, Southbury and Jubilee, vote for proper community politics that puts listening to local people first. Vote Liberal Democrat to make our voices heard and tell this Labour Council t you are fed up of them not listening to you." said Guy Russo.
